Russian and Nigeria Use Law To Stop Speech Against Government
Russia has proposed, which would ban the spread of fake news, of course including the use of internet to disrepect government officials and state symbols.
The law seems to be exact as in Nigeria, where a journalist was charged with cybercrimes for speaking out against the governemnt, according to the Committee to Protect Journalist (CPJ).
Russian News Outlet, Meduza, reported on March 6, 2019, State Duma has approved a bill which is to banning the spread of a fake news by an overwhelming 327 to 42 vote.
The bill makes the publication of fake news punishable by law, with the exclusion of newspaper, TV channels, radio station and news aggregator. For those media outlets, sites spreading the fake news will be blocked.
